About Us: President’s Message
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge
and controversy.”—Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dear New Jersey State Chapter Members:
It is with a great deal of honor that I serve as your president. Moreover, I consider myself extremely fortunate to work with such a qualified and diverse executive board.
Former New Jersey State Chapter President Edwin Maldonado, the current national east coast vice president, has created a solid foundation for this organization. It is incumbent upon us to build on this and create new initiatives.
The New Jersey State Chapter of the Latino Peace Officers Association is part of an impressive and praiseworthy national movement by Latino law enforcement personnel serving at all levels of the criminal justice system. This movement maintains a commitment to the improvement of the Latino community throughout the country. Similarly, we seek to augment the number of Latino officers in the field of law enforcement. We also seek to foster a healthy and productive working relationship with the community we serve.
I have set forth many goals for our organization, however, I am seeking input from you as well. The non-profit arena is not a spectator sport—your participation is not only encouraged, but an essential component to our overall success. We must all work in concert towards making these initiatives a reality.
My vision and goals upon taking the reins of the New Jersey State Chapter were to increase membership, increase the number of chapters, secure an office location, and to work towards the self-sufficiency of our chapter. I can report to you that most of my goals have been met. To that end, I want to thank my very capable and energetic executive board.
We will continue to increase participation in the communities we serve through different projects and outreach programs such as scholarships, community partnerships and our Child Safe ID Program. These activities garner recognition for our organization and highlight the role we play within the community as problem-solver and facilitator.
I thank all of you for your continued support and I look forward to the exciting challenges ahead. Feel free to contact me via .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this e-mail address) or phone to discuss ideas you may want to bring forth to our organization.
Sincerely,
Hector Ramos
