Morris County sheriff’s officers accept wage freeze
Published April 27, 2011
MORRIS COUNTY — The union representing Morris County sheriff’s officers working at the Superior Courthouse in Morristown has accepted the county’s wage freeze for 2011.
The agreement, reached two weeks ago, ends an impasse in negotiations and will enable three officers who had been laid off to return to work, according to both the union president and the sheriff.
Getting the three people back to work “will help out” and was a key incentive in dropping demands for a wage increase, said Mark Chiarolanza, the new president of Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 151.
“We understand what’s going on with the economic climate in the world,” Chiarolanza said. “We took another vote and it passed.”
